The headband is knit flat and then seamed. You begin with working parts 1 & 2 at the same time, with separate balls of yarn. Next you join parts 1 & 2 and work across all stitches for part 3. Finally, you split the work again, join another ball of yarn and work sections 4 & 5. The magic happens in how the piece is seamed.
